5 Things To Do Near Our Kendall Hotel

Our hotel in Kendall is close to many fun things to do in South Florida. Whether you’re looking for family attractions, natural parks or great shopping, there is something for everyone.

Kendall has a rich history and offers a unique glimpse of local life. The Florida Land and Mortgage Company purchased much of what is now Kendall from the State of Florida in 1883. It is named after Henry John Broughton Kendall, a director of the company who moved to the area in the 1900s to manage the company's land. The Kendall area continued to flourish as tourism expanded in the surrounding areas. These days, Kendall is a Miami suburb with hotels, shopping, dining and entertainment for all tastes. Below are 5 fun things to do in Kendall, Florida.

1. Zoo Miami
Zoo Miami is one of the best and most popular zoos in the United States. The South Florida climate allows it to feature a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa. The exhibits are entirely cage less and animals are grouped according to their natural geographic territories.

2. Everglades
Everglades National Park features 1.5 million acres of swamps, saw-grass prairies and sub-tropical jungles. The park is home to rare and endangered species, including the American Crocodile, the Florida Panther and the West Indian Manatee. Visitors have the opportunity to walk, camp and canoe throughout the beautiful and protected landscape.

3. Tropical Park
Tropical Park was developed on the site of a former horse track in 1979 and attracts approximately 1,500,000 visitors every year. Enjoy bicycling, walking or running on the miles of paved pathways. You can also shape up on their fitness court or in their boxing center.

4. Gold Coast Railroad Museum
The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is conveniently located on the grounds of Zoo Miami. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history of railroads and their contributions to our nation. You can even drive a locomotive through their “Engineer for a Day” program!

Booking Your Hotel in Kendall: Top 10 Suggestions

When it comes to booking your hotel in Kendall, there are certain things you should consider. Understanding how hotel reservations work is an important key to helping you get the most from your travel accommodations. Here are the top 10 suggestions when booking your Kendall hotel.

1. Make Your Reservation Directly with the Hotel
It’s always best to contact the hotel directly. They may have discounted rates or special packages that you have not seen in advertisements.

2. Ask for Special Accommodations
If you want a room on a certain floor, near the pool, or in a quieter area of the hotel, make sure you request this ahead of time. Your hotel will have a better chance of arranging this for you if they know in advance.

3. Get a Confirmation Number
It’s good to have a confirmation number if there are any mix-ups when you arrive to check in at your hotel in Kendall. If you booked online, bring a printout of that reservation with you.

4. Know When to Book
You will find the least expensive rates for a Kendall hotel during the low-season summer months, and weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends. In the peak season, you may find small price breaks by traveling midweek rather than on the weekend.

5. Request a Rollaway or Crib at the Time You Reserve
This is important to do ahead of time if you need one. Otherwise, if the hotel is full, they may not be able to provide an extra bed or crib. These items may also not be allowed in smaller rooms due to fire codes.

6. Find Out the Check-in and Check-out Times
If for some reason your plans need an earlier arrival or later departure, you should set this up ahead of time. The hotel will either be able to accommodate your travel plans or offer you a half-day rate for the extra time, but they do need to know this ahead of time in order to set it up for you.

7. Arrange Your Transportation in Advance
Make sure you plan your trip from the airport to your Kendall hotel in advance. Cabs can be very expensive during South Florida’s peak season, so do some research on options for public transportation.

8. Check the Weather
South Florida has a rainy season from summer to early fall, so make sure you check the predicted weather conditions before planning your vacation.

9. Sign Up for a Rewards Program
You may be able to do this when you book your room. Sign-up is usually free and you may be immediately entitled to all the various perks and discounts that membership offers.

10. Check for Affiliation and Other Discounts
You may qualify for additional hotel discounts simply by belonging to an association or organization. AARP and AAA are just some of the many examples.

Top Ten Mistakes When Traveling to Miami or Kendall

1. Arriving Without a Place To Stay
Book your Miami hotel in advance – at least for the first night. You will need a place to put your suitcases down when you arrive. Wandering around jetlagged and desperate for a place to rest is never fun.

2. Forgetting About Transportation
Make sure you plan your trip from the airport to your Miami or Kendall hotel in advance. Cabs can be very expensive during Miami’s peak season, so do your research on options for public transportation.

3. Misplacing Your Passport
Spending your vacation tracking down consulates and misplaced documents is a waste of time. Make 2 copies of your passport, leave one copy at home with a friend or family member and keep the other copy in your luggage. If, for any reason, your passport is lost or stolen, just take your copy to your consulate so they can trace your passport number, cancel the original passport and give you a new one.

4. Traveling Without Medical Insurance
Being prepared for any accidents during your Miami vacation is important. Make sure you have appropriate medical coverage in case you need it.

5. Not Checking Your Roaming Fees
Using your cell phone in another state without an appropriate service plan could be surprisingly expensive. Contact your service provider to inquire about any extra service fees.

6. Forgetting to Call Your Credit Card Company
Give your credit card company a heads-up that you’ll be traveling or they may suspect fraud and suspend your credit card until you’ve confirmed purchases during your vacation.

7. Sticking To Tourist Traps
Inquire with local residents or the staff of your hotel in Miami for suggestions on the best local attractions, restaurants and events.

8. Not Using a Travel Agent
You can find sales and flight discounts when booking your flight to Miami through an agent. Don’t settle for regular rates. Discounts are usually available for those who seek them.

9. Making Changes to Your Flight Reservations
Postponing your departure date is one of the most common mistakes that travelers can make. Flight changes are available but usually at high costs.

10. Over Packing
Arriving at the airport with overweight suitcases can bust your travel budget even before you take off. Most airlines allow one bag for free, but you could be charged up to $100.00 for every additional piece of luggage or overweight bag.
